Australian Open 2010 - Men's draw

WOW!!!Wat a final!!! There were many anticipation in the men's side like Will Rafael Nadal come back with his winning streak, The new champion Del Potro to add trophy in his case, DJokovic to make his mark and Andy Murray for his first slam title.

Unlike women's draw the men's draw was very gud right from the first round. Everything was fine until the fourth round. All expected seeded players entered the round of 16. The hot match of the fourth round was between Roger and Hewitt. Roger eased past Hewitt in three straight sets. He didn't give any opportunity for the Australian to wake up and threaten him. With Hewitt, Veradasco also exited. The recent US Open Champion, Del Potro, who was considered as a threat to the top seeds was stunned by the young Croatian Marin Cilic.

Mostly the top seeds will be meeting in the semis. This year the clay king , Rafael Nadal met the Scottish, Andy Murray in the quarters. I took leave and decided to watch the match. I thought the match will go on for 5 hours since both of them are tough players. But the scott was having upper hand and was leading 2 sets to 0. In the third set Scott was up with 3 games lead when Nadal decided to withdraw from his game due to knee injury. It was a great upset not only to the tennis fans but for the Scott himself. When Nadal approached the Scott, he was so disappointed that the match had to end in that way. Even if Nadal had continued he would not have made into semis since the Scott was having the upper hand.

In the other quarters Roger was one set down against Nikolay Davydenko. In the second set Roger realised that he was slipping away. He was down with Davydenko leading the set 3 games to 0. Roger was so aggressive that he conquered all the 6 games in a row and won the set with 6-3 finish. This aggression continued in the next also where he swept the set cleanly with 6-0. In the next set he took the first game. He won straight 13 games in a row and stunned Davydenko. He won the match comfortably later in the fourth set.

The Serbian top seed Novak was expected to meet Roger in semi's but the giant Tsonga swept the match. This match was a five setter. Novak got tired as the match progressed but Tsonga was as fresh as he started. He found that Novak was getting tired and he comfortably won the match in 5th set.

The ace expert Andy Roddick was stopped by Marin Cilic in the epic five setter. Andy Roddick was no match for the athletic Marin Cilic. Marin Cilic being the younger player in the quarters was so full of energy. Andy played his best but at last accepted defeat at the Croatian's hands.

Roger stunned Tsonga in the semis in three straight sets. Tsonga was clueless when Roger was two sets lead. Roger was at his best. He entered into his 22nd grand slam finals to conquer his 16th grand slam title.

I expected Marin Cilic to enter the finals. The dreams of the croatian was shattered by the mighty Scott.

The finals was like the repeat of US Open 2009. Roger was so confident about his game. He got an early break in Scott's serve and so he took away the first set. The mighty Scott didn't give up and struck back in the second set. Roger was able to break his serve and took away the second set. With only one set away from Championship Roger was so over confident that Andy broke his serve very early. The Scott was leading game with 5-3 in the board. The Scott seemed capable of anything. My bro told me that this game will go for a fourth set. At my heart I was so confident that Roger would turn any thing other way around. He turned the score into 5-5 level. It was an awesome set. Then the set went into Tie Break.

Tie Break is a worst night mare for the Scott but he took an early break in Roger's serve. Roger proved his ability to strike back. He broke Andy's serve and regained the momentum. Andy had five set points in his hand to take the match to next set. He missed every point. With two miss in the set point he gave two championship point to Roger. But he was so tough that Roger was able to get his slam only in the third Championship point. Yet again Roger won the first slam for the year.

During ceremony Andy broke into tears since he was so near in clinching the title. This has so happened for the second time (first in US Open 2009). Roger was so proud to clinch the title as a father (his first slam as a father). I was so happy to see him smile because last year he was in tears.

With Roger in good form, Murray with passion, Cilic in his high energy level and Roddick with his new stat I hope the French Open 2010 would be a big treat. I hope the clay king, Rafael Nadal recovers by that time.
